Light Rail Weekender, June 13-15

Embrace Charlotte’s night life, community and culture at one of the many free events happening this weekend. Best of all, you don’t need a car to get there! All of the following events are accessible with Charlotte’s light rail and streetcars.
Don’t forget – students who pay the miscellaneous transportation fee have the CATS All-Access Pass linked to their Niner Net email. So instead of buying a light rail ticket, just download the CATS Pass App, login with your @charlotte.edu email, and then ride Charlotte light rail fare-free!
Food Truck Friday in South End
- When: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, June 13
- Where: Hi-Wire Brewing parking lot
- Cost: Free
You don’t have to drive to take advantage of this Food Truck Friday! Enjoy the night life in South End Charlotte while you take your pick of food and drinks from a bunch of unique food trucks, enjoy live music and shop local vendors.
Directions: From UNC Charlotte Main Station, take the Blue Line southbound and get off at Lynx East/ West Blvd station. Walk about 0.5 miles to 340 W Tremont Ave.

Knit in Public Light Rail Ride
- When: 12:15 p.m., June 14
- Where: I-485 Light Rail Station
- Cost: Free
Celebrate “World Wide Knit in Public Day” with your fellow crafters. Join the ride at one of several scheduled light rail stops or meet up with the group afterwards at 7th St Market for food, knitting and conversation. Don’t forget your needles and yarn!
Directions: From UNC Charlotte Main Station, take the Blue Line southbound and get off at I-485 station.

Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas
- When: June 12-15
- Where: Plaza Midwood
- Cost: Free
Demarking the end of chattel slavery in the United States, Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas is an opportunity to remember history and celebrate the legacy of African culture right here in Charlotte. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration, which will include heritage performances, live music and dance, fashion shows, a parade and much more!
Directions: From UNC Charlotte Main Station, take the Blue Line southbound and get off at Charlotte Transportation Center. Walk about 0.1 miles to the Gold Line CTC stop. Take the Gold Line eastbound and get off at Sunnyside St stop. Walk about 0.5 miles to 1215 Thomas Ave.
